During the development of science and technology, the earth is getting screwed. Order and arrangement of components change from time to time, so there is an imbalance between its components. Moreover, if we talk about the issue of global warming, biosphere quality has declined drastically. That led to reduced biodiversity, so that biogeochemical cycles are damaged. Finally, many natural disasters occur in our earth. If we look back, there are some problems that can lead to an sequential implication which makes a reduction cycle of the earth quality.
Actually, we are required to participate in the development of science and technology. But on the other hand, we should be able to maintain the balance of components that exist in ecosystems. This is not easy. We should be able to consider all aspects when we wanted to make a change in a positive direction. The aim is that we do not make new problem that would increase the complex state of our earth.
This is the role of youth as the agent of change. Youth as the person most instrumental in the development of civilization would be more aware of this problem. We know that everyone has the potential are rooted in each individual. The potential is supposed to be used optimally to build themselves and the world.
Youth is a national asset. When the youths in a nation already realized the importance of national building, then indirectly they contributed to the development of the world. The role of youth as agents of change should be able to answer problems that occur at this time. When people realize the potential of deep-rooted in them, then they develop it optimally, they would soon make a big change through their real work.
There are so many things can be done by a youth. Call it the student university. Students University should be able to maximize their potential to create new innovations related with their scientific fields. Young people from various fields of science can work together to overcome the risk of natural disasters occurring in Indonesia. As an example of the simplest but complicated natural disaster is the problem of flooding that often occurs in Indonesia. Youth from the community public health education can initiate program of waste sorting. Then the students of biological sciences can initiate a sustainable program of waste management. Thus, waste can be recovered without harming the environment. The other program may be encouraging people to make the “Biopori” system in every home. Besides aiming to reduce the risk of floods, “Biopori” can also enrich the soil. So that, community of that area can builds a farm or plantation. Finally, it will increase their personal income and expand their skill.
Engineering can contribute in making various innovative engineering tools which are capable of supporting the reduction of risk. Such as creating an eco-friendly design tool which can be used in industrial company in Indonesia. An environmental engineer collaborates with a biologist to create a bio-remediation system of industrial company and promote it to companies in Indonesia. Thus, the development can be run properly by reducing the risk of destruction to the environment. Finally, we can create a sustainable development in our country.
Political science and law academician, served to encourage governments to support all forms of development would be done. Youth scientist should make research which is then followed up through community development. We must sure that all forms of developments remain in the right corridor. That is by synergizing the various scientific clusters. If the system has been implemented well, it will form a development process that creates a sustainable environment.
When the youth in every country in the world successfully applying this construction system, then it implies, we have sought to make improvements in the world. Then it will be followed up by international conference. The youths can share each other about what development has been done in their country. Then it may be tried to be applied in other countries. So that, we can repair this earth and make it better than before. Let’s do it!
